SOON COME

Rewind/Forward is a two-part public art exhibition centring Toronto soundsystem culture. It features monumental portraits, taken by Jamaican-Canadian photographer Jorian Charlton, of five notable Toronto selectors (DJs) and soundsystem owners: Heather Live Wire Bubb-Clarke, Tasha Rozez, Bambii, Ace Dillinger, and Nino Brown. Collectively, their experiences offer a fuller view of local bass music culture across eras, genres, and communities. Part-retrospective, part-forecast – Rewind/Forward is accompanied by a website hosting video shorts, custom music mixes, and audio documentaries with personal stories spanning pre-Independence Jamaica to Toronto rave futures. The exhibition was created by Caribbean-Canadian music artist, curator and researcher Alanna Stuart for ArtworxTO: Toronto’s Year of Public Art.

OPENING SEPTEMBER 10, 2022

Rewind/Forward happens at a fully accessible site in the historically Jamaican Bloor & Bathurst neighbourhood.
